DroveDVD
The Drove
THE DROVE - a re-creation of an 18th century cattle drove from Scotland to London’s Smithfield Market.

On a drizzly afternoon in 1985 a little group of men walking behind a herd of hill cattle, mainly galloways and highlanders, were setting out on an adventure.

Tom Purdham the Cumbrian fell farmer, Ian Husband Scottish Director of a meat processing company and well known broadcaster Eric Robson, the Borderer, were embarking on a squabbling 500 mile walk from Wigtownshire in South West Scotland to Smithfield Market in London. On the way they would capture the excitements and hazards, the discomforts and black humour of an eighteenth century cattle drove.
